1866 Dime. Judd-534. Nickel. Rarity-7. Proof-64 PCGS.
Lustrous deep silver-gold throughout. Obverse: from regular-issue dies. Reverse: same comment. More satiny than reflective, a characteristic of nickel in the early days of its presence in mint philosophy. The strike is also flat in places, another tell-tale of the “newness” of nickel and its properties. Between PCGS and NGC, a total of five examples of J-534 have been certified; the tale of the tape is shown below. This rare prize is missing from most of the great pattern cabinets currently being formed. The presence here of one of the finest known specimens will afford a special opportunity for pattern specialists, or at least for the most tenacious bidder among them.

PCGS Population: 3; no others in any grade. NGC Census: 2; no others in any grade.
