Title: 1864 Pattern 1¢. Judd-356A, Pollock-427. Thick Planchet. Rarity-Low 6. Copper or Bronze. Plain Edge. MS-62 BN NGC
Header: Uncirculated 1864 Indian 1¢ Pattern
Description: Dies as illustrated. Dusky golden-brown with softly effusive luster and rich golden tones. This elusive type comes in copper or bronze on thick planchets “with at least a dozen known on planchets of about 73 grains and are extremely rare showing any red color. If these are truly bronze, then they may be mint errors on wrong thickness stock,” notes the uspatterns.com website. The present piece is one of just four examples of the type called Mint State by NGC, a figure that includes two BN, and one each RB and RD. This one is scarce no matter how you color it.
NGC Census: 1; 1 finer within the BN designation (MS-64 BN).
