1864 Copper-Nickel. Proof-65 CAM PCGS.
This is the sort of coin that is difficult for a cataloger to describe owing to the overall beauty; it’s like trying to describe a sunset over the phone to someone 2,500 miles away. Liberty’s frosty portrait is pale ice-blue with a splash of orange at LIBERTY, while fiery deep orange iridescence engages the balance of the field, varying in intensity and depth with each twist of the holder. The reverse is very much the same in its color patterns as the obverse. This gem is so colorful, it’s almost what you would expect from an 1864 bronze cent. An aesthetic treat for any who enjoy richly toned 19th century coinage – you won’t often see copper-nickel cents toned like this!

PCGS Population: 34; 10 finer within the CAM designation (Proof-67 CAM finest).
