Title: 1864 $20. MS-62 PCGS
Header: Lustrous Uncirculated 1864 Double Eagle
Description: We wouldn’t hesitate to add a full grading point to the reverse of this brilliant and lustrous Type I double eagle. The obverse is just shy of a PL designation, though the satiny field is still highly reflective. Liberty’s icon is frosty and remarkably free of unsightly blemishes, and the luster is completely unbroken on the high points; this isn’t the typical MS-62. Scattered bagmarks define the assigned grade, and those are chiefly in the left half of the obverse field. The reverse field is satiny with only a touch of reflectivity. The devices are full and sharp on both sides, and the eye appeal is more than sufficient to a coin of this quality. Whether for type set purposes, a date run of Civil War coinage, or perhaps one of the most ambitious undertakings in U.S. numismatics, a complete set of Liberty $20s, the present coin is well worth the short time and brief inspection it will take to satisfy your demand for quality.
PCGS Population: 9; 4 finer (MS-65 finest). One of the MS-63 coins is designated “+” by PCGS.
