1863 Seated Liberty $1. Genuine - Damage - AU Details PCGS. The deep steel-gray surfaces of this sharp specimen are peppered with innumerable tiny marks, enough of which were cause for the PCGS graders to give this specimen a qualifier with its grade; the marks are most prevalent under low magnification. Only 27,200 pieces were produced of the date, and much of that mintage is believed to have been shipped to Latin America and the West Indies for trade purposes. Very few 1863-dated silver dollars actually circulated in the U.S.; the Civil War was waging, coins were being hoarded, and Seated dollars were worth more for their silver content than for face value. Worth a look if Liberty Seated dollars are your numismatic calling.
