1858 Small Eagle, Oak Wreath. J-203. P-247. S-PT18. R5. PR64 PCGS (PS). 1st. Gen. Holder. Choice Proof (10: 3,3,4).
Anthony Paquet’s Small Eagle design paired with the Oak Wreath. These are popular with collectors because of their quirky design. It is a nearly two-dimensional representation of an eagle. Only 75 examples were struck for the 12-piece cent sets the Mint sold in 1858. Attempting to complete this set is a goal by many a collector.
This example has medium mirrors and just a few light marks appropriate for the grade. Some debris of the ages adheres to the surfaces. The reverse die is rotated slightly to the right.
