Title: 1858-D Gold $1. Winter 10-M; Only Die Pair. MS-63 NGC..
Header: Choice Mint State 1858-D Gold Dollar
Description: A frosty yellow-gold specimen with lively luster and a fairly crisp strike for the date. Plenty of lively orange mint bloom endorses the peripheries, and faint clash marks adorn both sides. A production run of 3,477 pieces yielded some 250-300 survivors for today’s collecting community, making for a date that can be found to suit just about any collector’s taste and budget. That is not to say this is a common date in Mint State, quite the contrary in fact. The population of the date is practically exhausted at the MS-63 level, with just two coins finer in the eyes of NGC. Even the most patient collector must wait it out for those rare occasions when a coin of comparable quality to this piece makes an appearance. Once that occurs, however, it’s anybody’s ball game when the bidding starts!

NGC Census: 7; 2 finer (MS-66 finest).
