Nearly as made to our eyes and judged solely by the surfaces. This lustrous specimen offers the familiar frosty golden-tan surfaces of a copper-nickel cent of the era along with plenty of firmly embedded luster. The date is sharp and some of the eagle’s central plumage is evident, but only the very tops of the legend UNITED STATES OF AMERICA can be seen, with everything else fading into the obverse field. The reverse is in much the same state, sharp at the very top of the wreath – directly opposite the bold date details – while most of the other devices are soft and ONE CENT is just a shadow of its future self. Rare and unusual, this unique Mint product offers a look into the Mint’s technology of the era. We expect Flying Eagle cent specialists and error aficionados alike will take a liking to this unusual cent when it enters the auction arena.
