By Antoine Louis Nouizillet, another major issuer of small California gold coins from 1852 to 1858. He is first listed in the San Francisco city directory of Sept. 8, 1852, when he was in partnership with Isodore Routhier in a jewelry business. In the December 1852 directory he is shown as Nouizillet & Co., jewelers, and also by himself, with Routhier listed separately. Another associate during this period was diesinker M. Deriberpie. Of much neater work than that of Frontier & Deviercy, Nouizillet made new dies for both sides of this variety, advancing to 12 stars around the head. Bright, dark speck in center of reverse.
