Deep yellow-gold with warm orange highlights and some retained mint bloom in the protected areas. A slightly arcing vertical obverse crease – not egregious enough to be named a scratch – is seen in the field before Liberty’s face, and another smaller but similar marks is noted in the field on the reverse at 4 o’clock; save for the obvious, this specimen fared pretty well during its stay in commerce. The Kagin reference noted some 300,000 or so pieces were struck by Kellogg & Co. from February, 1854 and well into 1855, most of that mintage of the $20 denomination. A good starting place for a Pioneer gold type set. PCGS #10225
