Title: 1853-D Gold $1. Winter 5-G; Only Die Pair. MS-62 PCGS.
Header: Uncirculated 1853-D Gold Dollar
Description: The intensely lustrous yellow-gold surfaces exhibit a blush of warm olive iridescence throughout, and with much frosty mint bloom offered in the protected design areas. Die file mark from rim diagonally through the obverse star at 9 o’clock, is a noted diagnostic for genuine specimens of the date. Struck from lightly clashed dies. One of 6,583 examples struck, with the majority of survivors in the EF to AU range. We believe 15 or slightly more Mint State examples of the date are known, and today’s collector with an eye toward a high-quality branch mint gold dollar for type purposes would do well to keep an eye on this lot.
