Description: Dies as illustrated. This bright yellow-gold “slug” is brilliant and lustrous with a trace of olive iridescence. An attractive piece that is sharp where the metal hit the dies, and flat where the metal refused to fill the design high points – a typical scenario for the issue. The reverse exhibits soft, unbroken luster throughout. A scattering of tiny marks and blemishes accounts for the grade, though most Pioneer Gold $50s have marks of some note owing to the size of the coins and the soft nature of gold. One of just six Mint State grading events registered at NGC, and probably the visual equal to any of the other five coins. A great coin for type or cabinet fulfillment efforts.
NGC Census: 3; 3 finer (all MS-62).
