Title: [b]1850-D $2.50. Winter 13-N. MS-63 ICG
Header: Choice Mint State 1850-D $2.50
Description: After careful examination under a bright light, we concur with ICG’s assigned grade. The luster is completely unbroken on the design high points of this satiny yellow-gold specimen, and warm olive highlights endorse the somewhat lightly stippled surfaces. No marks of any measure are to be found, and certainly not by the unassisted eye. This coin is a delightful example of the date, with a crisp obverse strike and a slightly weaker reverse with some softness at the eagle’s leg feathers, as is typical for the date. The Winter reference notes: “There are very few legitimately attractive examples of this date available to collectors. An 1850-D which is well-struck, lustrous, and minimally abraded trades for a substantial premium over a ‘typical’ piece.” This little beauty if a far cry from “typical,” and will no doubt recognize a “substantial premium” at bidding time.
