This deep honey-gold specimen enjoys soft but active underlying luster throughout, especially on the reverse. Only faintly marked to the unassisted eye though a loupe will reveal the testament of circulation endured by this large Gold Rush issue. The dies are attributed to Albert Kuner, who arrived at the doorway of Moffat & Co. in July, 1849, and who later worked his charms with die steel for more than one firm during his Gold Rush career. The obverse is particularly reminiscent of the federal-issue gold coins of the era.

This specimen is the second-finest example of the variety certified at NGC, and no Mint State pieces have been certified by that firm. Pleasing to the eye and just a bid away from your cabinet.
NGC Census: 1; 1 finer (AU-58).
