Bright yellow-gold with robust luster, warm orange highlights, and some prooflike reflectivity in the fields.
The appearance of three pleasing AU 1847 half eagles in a row allows for some die study. On this specimen there is a die crack that runs from the dentils upward across the crosslet of the 4 in the date, then up across Liberty’s portrait and ERTY in her tiara, then upward again to the dentils at 12 o’clock. The 1 is distant from the dentils, its lower left serif over the left edge of a dentil, and it touches the bust above close to the rounded tip, and the 7 touches the bust well in from the shoulder tip.
