Title: 1846-D $2.50. Winter 7-L. PCGS MS-61..
Header: Mint State 1846-D Quarter Eagle
Description: A frosty deep yellow-gold specimen with decided olive highlights. Choice for the grade with completely unbroken luster on the design high points – that’s not always the case at the MS-61 grade level. Variety with D mintmark erroneously punched over the 1 in the fraction, though the details are mostly faded in this late die state example. Whether for type purposes or a Dahlonega Mint cabinet, you’ll be hard pressed to improve upon this piece without moving up the grading scale a notch.

PCGS Population: 7; 4 finer (MS-63 finest).
