The silver-gray surfaces run the spectrum from steel to near-slate in appearance, and a bright light brings out some pale neon-blue iridescence. Evenly circulated, unmarked to the unassisted eye, and not noticeably abraded when viewed with a loupe. From the first year of the design type within the denomination – the seated style of Liberty half dimes and dimes made their debut in 1837, the quarters in 1838, the half dollars in 1839, and the dollars converted to uniformity in 1840. From the late state of the reverse die with several cracks developed as called for in the Wiley-Bugert reference; this late state is called “scarce” there. Choice for the grade and easily suitable for a high-end circulated type set. PCGS #6230
