This brightly lustrous specimen yields bold luster on its frosty yellow-gold surfaces. The strike is sharp throughout nearly all the design, especially at the centers. Breen-6142: “Head of 1834. Three reverse varieties. Rare. Both ribbon ends plain, date spaced 183 6…part of mintage may have borne date 1835. Most of the gold for this year’s output came from melted old-tenor coins; part was from French Indemnity payments.” With a noticeably larger 6 in the date, at least to our eyes. Choice for the grade with plenty of eye appeal.
