Header: Exceptional Gem 1836 Capped Bust Dime
Ex Pogue Collection
Description: The obverse of this satiny Gem provides the viewer a lustrous display of mingled violet and royal blue iridescence that peripherally enhances the attractive peach-gold centers. The reverse is largely silver-gold with a more subtle peripheral halo than on the obverse. The strike is sharp throughout and would be difficult to improve upon at any grade level. A loupe -- and a great deal of patience -- will yield no more than a few minor surface disturbances; the reverse in particular is virtually flawless. The finest of just three Mint State examples of JR-3 designated as such by PCGS; we have no way of knowing how many examples of the variety exist in MS-65 among the non-designated population, but it can’t be very many at all. A beautiful coin from a near-legendary collection is about to change hands, and bidders will be up and ready for the ensuing action. The stakes are always high for coins of this caliber, so please don’t be timid if you mean to add this appealing coin to your type or early dime cabinet.
PCGS Population: 1; none finer within the JR-3 designation.
