1722 Wood’s Hibernia Halfpenny. Harp Left. Nelson-3. Gem Uncirculated Prooflike Specimen Strike. SP65 BN PCGS.
A lovely example with smooth satiny surfaces and needle-sharp details. A perfect specimen of this extremely rare trial piece that has often been called a Proof striking. Ex lot 3426 Norweb Collection, November 1988, and certainly among the finest known.

William Wood’s coinage for Ireland was authorized by a royal patent in 1722 and continued through 1724. Acceptance of these coppers was generally resisted by the public because of the way the issue was authorized. They were never intended for use in America or any of the colonies, but have long been included with the very similar Rosa Americana copper coins that were also made by Wood.
