1652 Massachusetts Oak Tree Shilling. Noe-13 (R.6). VF35 PCGS. CAC.
This is a pleasing and affordable example of the always popular Oak Tree shilling. The devises are sharp although interspersed with a few weak areas and missing letters that are essentially diagnostic of this variety. Rated R6 by Salmon.

This variety was made from the last pair of Oak Tree dies just prior to the change over to the Pine Tree design. As such it might well be dated close to 1667 when Hull began a more aggressive production. It is an affordable and appealing example of the money used to launch New England’s economy and establish self-reliance for the Commonwealth.
