Header: THE FINER OF JUST TWO KNOWN GREEN PRNTED RUSSIAN-AMERICAN COMPNAY 1 ROUBLE NOTES
Title: 1 ROUBLE (1842-1845) Kardakoff 53.4 PMG Extremely Fine-40 tear repair Serial # 7827
Description: Rectangular with no punches or clipping. 58mm x 44mm
A lovely aqua-green printing only used on the 1 Rouble denomination. Relatively thin off-white parchment type medium with very minor surface granularity.
An aesthetically lovely Extremely Fine specimen with nice coloring and an expertly restored top tear apparently part of a well ironed light vertical crease. A few smudge marks but aesthetically quite nice with bold serial number. Very faint signature.
The face is similar to the other described notes with a company seal using the double headed Imperial Russian eagle with an oval frame, legend in Russian translated UNDER THE HIGH PATRONAGE OF HIS IMPERIAL MAJESTY. The denomination in words below the seal using italic type. The back has a finely engraved oval protector with spiral details with the Russian legend translated NOTE IN AMERICA with the denomination “1 PYB” below. The serial number frame with “No” is at the bottom of the oval, outlined white to allow the serial number to be written in. At the base is a shaded box with the authorized signature.
The Zander reference work only recorded 18 specimens in all with half in museums. We know of only six specimens extant: Four on yellow parchment and two on aqua-green parchment
This note is finer than the only other specimen sold by Stacks 1/05:1234 from the John J. Ford Collection.
