(c.1694) London Elephant token. GOD PRESERVE LONDON, thick planchet. XF45 PCGS.
This piece is well struck on a solid planchet devoid of any signs of overstrike or blemishes. It has attractive light brown surfaces without nicks or flaws. The devices are all sharp and clear.

These tokens were possibly intended to circulate as halfpennies, or may simply have been made as some sort of commemorative medals. There is no reason to believe that they were ever used as money in America. They were made in the Tower Mint in London probably in or near 1694, the date that appears on some of the related pieces with the same elephant design and other legends. The dies were later found in the Tower Mint and have been preserved.
