Famed 1820 North West Co. Token
Struck in Copper 1820 North West Co. Beaver Token. Breen-1084, W-9252. Copper. VF-20 PCGS. Holed for suspension at 12 o’clock, as virtually always found. Deep chocolate-brown throughout with solid arm’s length eye appeal; a glass reveals some old scratches around the obverse effigy of George IV. Much rarer and in more demand than its counterpart in brass, the metal in which this type is most often found. Made in Birmingham, England by John Walker & Co., mainly for use in Western Canada; its assumed value was one beaver pelt. We predict strong bidding activity for this lot.
From the Roper Collection.
