Unique. The quality and appearance of this coin can hardly be overstated and it will continue to be appreciated by its new owner as it has been by a cadre of illustrious collectors in the past. Every detail is sharply defined and the surfaces are as brilliant as the day it was made. This unique specimen will become the centerpiece of any collection. Also see related item at lot 507.

Early catalogers of this piece have called it silver. Q. David Bowers has more accurately described it as being silver plated prior to striking. The color on both sides is a lustrous yellowish silver reminiscent of the original color occasionally seen on well preserved uncirculated Bath metal pieces. Ex Joseph Mickley 1879; Charles Bushnell 1882; Lorin Parmelee 1890; Dr. Thomas Hall; Virgil Brand Collection 1984; John Ford 2005.
